I think that for the next election will should pick another prime minister and not Gordon Brown if we don't want the same things that happened a couple of months ago to occur again.
i'm not saying i hate the prime minister or anything,
i mean he doesn't take his role as a prime minister, he was disrespectful to a women who lost her son in Afrighanistan.
he wrote the letter to the women who lost her son in the war in SLANG!
later i think prince williams wrote a letter to the women in appropriate language.
leave your comments below and suggestions and i'll get back to you.
THANK YOU.

I think people are pretty harsh on gordon brown.

he lost the sight in one of his eyes and is partially sighted in the other. so considering that, i think it's a great thing that he himself is able to write personally to each family who has lost someone in battle. he could probably easily get his secretary to write it, but nobody considers that.
the letter wasnt really in slang or disrespectful, but badly spelled in some parts. so i think it's about focusing on the message, not the way he wrote it.
Are you voting this year?
Attia x
WoW i didn't know he was blind on one eye.
Thanks for replying back, i agree to your opinion but why would he write a letter and not apologise for the mistake that he made, and poor old prince williams had to cover up for him, but over all i think that tony blair or someone more superior should be elected.
and unfortunately i can't vote because i'm under age, but if i was 18 then i would vote for someone else,
maybe if Gordon take more responsibility.
I agree, sometimes Gordon Brown makes the wrong decisions, but sometimes I guess he's OK. The issue with the the letter was bad, but amends were made for it. We need a new PM, someone who's a people person and makes the right choices for the public, I don't know when that person will come about so it's Gordon Brown for now, or maybe Cameron, or someone else, but I can't vote anyway.
I'm not a great fan of Brown, but I agree that people are too critical of him. He's received a constant barraging from the media since he took up office and it's turned him into the walking dead. It's inevitable that people will make the wrong decisions, what's important is how resolve them and make sure they don't happen again.

Regarding the letter, it was the sentiment that was paramount, particularly as he was taking the time to personally write to the grieving families instead of attending to matters of running of the state. I don't think Prince William 'covered it up'. Perhaps as a serviceman, Prince William wanted to write a response that was more personally attuned to the loss suffered by the family. Anyway, he has more time than Brown to pen the immaculate letter.

I don't understand people's fascination with having a PM who's a 'people's person'. That's what Blair was and he did more harm in his premiership than good. Our history is filled with anti-charismatic premiers: for instance, Atlee and Chamberlain. I'd happily vote for the quiet man who can get the job done and done well with substance, integrity, honesty and passion. That instantly rules out a few people :P
yeah thanks for replying..x
i agree with ur opinion, you've explained your point clearly and i like it.
but if i had a chance to vote for the elections i wouldn't vote for the present prime minister.
I understand completely why those things he did were STUPID and insensitive but it doesn't really affect his ability to be a political leader (or does it? how important do you think charisma is? maybe a new forum idea...).

Anyhow, when we vote we vote for a party not a personality and I think that is something that's getting lost in our politics. People haven't really warmed to Brown and the Labour party are being punished for it. People are forgetting that he is just one man and not concentrating on policies etc as much as the individuals acting as figureheads. Conservative policies are no more popular than usual but because they have a leader who can give a nice speach and wear a good suite their popularity is souring.

I personally believe that a Tory government is a dangerous thing for the UK (we don't want another Thatcher reigime) so it may be time to get rid of Brown to give Labour a fighting chance.

Only problem is- who do we like enough to replace him..?
"Only problem is- who do we like enough to replace him..?"

Within the Labour Party? Or from the current opposition leaders? And chances are if there's a hung parliament he may stay on until June :P He will go on and on - I don't know whether to admire that tenacity or be frightened of it. We all need a change, including the man himself.

I agree with the points you've made. People are punishing the Labour Party for the faults of Brown and his government (and Parliament with the expenses scandal), which is a dangerous thing. Like you, I'd rather have Labour in power than the Tories. However disconnected Labour's become from its roots and the people, they'd be the lesser of two evils. I'm quite tempted by the Lib Dems - they have good policies and could do with the chance to prove themselves.
