Harry Naio replied to Rebecca Meredith's discussion SHOULD THERE BE COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE?
"Community service, if compulsory, would be a farce. People would carry their term out and be done with it, save the few exceptions who would volunteer anyway. This is effectively state-sponsored boy scouts/girl guides etc. Not a good idea, and I…"

"This is really interesting Denise, As a Italian and an athiest I too have been brought up in the church (convent education for two years) I have since rejected the faith and since my move to the political left, i've reacted more violently…"

Yet another crime Isreali crime

I wish I could say I was surprised at the latest cold-blooded murder of 19 peace activists by Isreali marines. I really do. But when I heard the news I just added this to the 100's of other war crimes and violations of international law that the Isreali State has committed over the past 62 years. Not only was this tantamount to a declaration of war against Turkey (most of the victims were Turkish) This attack by the Isreali navy occurred in international waters against neutral vessels, thus…See More

Conservative policy deconstruction.

In lieu of the impending election, I've decided to deconstruct the policies of the conservative party, given that I disagree with them the most out of the big three parties, sorry any supporters :P1) “Abolishing tax on new jobs created by new businesses within the first two years of a Conservative government.” This is yet another attempt by the conservative party to appeal to theBritish public by promising tax cuts without fully explaining theimplications of said cuts. In case the Rt. Hon. Ken…See More

Harry Naio replied to Eve1994's discussion CHARISMA'S PLACE IN POLITICS?
"This is true, charisma is much more interesting than a particular and almost entirely semantic argument about policy that you're likely to get where we have a strong centre-right tendency among the main parties. If you look at the implications…"

Harry Naio replied to Eve1994's discussion CHARISMA'S PLACE IN POLITICS?
"True, most teens lean towards the Lib Dems, I can think of few young Labour or Conservative supporters. That said, large number of teens move to extreme positions on the spectrum, i.e. anarchists, socialists on the left or nazis on the right."

Harry Naio replied to Eve1994's discussion CHARISMA'S PLACE IN POLITICS?

Harry Naio replied to Eve1994's discussion CHARISMA'S PLACE IN POLITICS?

"It's been amazing, I think that there is definitely alot to be taken from this conference, alot of good Ideas but also a few stinkers, what's really important is that the Ideas get put to the powers that be. If they can't be agreed…"

DFID Agenda 2010 Conference Thursday 11/03/10 Part 2 Round Table Discussion on Hunger and Nutrition.

As part of the conference, both Denise and myself were able to attend round table discussions centering on selected MDGs (see part 1 of this blog). I sat in on a discussion on Hunger and Nutrition chaired by the Rt Hon. Mike Foster MP, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State.

In this session, I saw presentations regarding hunger and malnutrition by Senor Romulo de Sousa, from the Department for Social Development in Brazil, Kevin Cleaver, President of the International Fund for… Continue

DFID Agenda2010 Conference, Thrusday 11/3/10 Part 1

Today, Denise and Myself are attending the DFID Agenda2010 Conference on the Millenium Development Goals (henceforth referred to as MDGs)

The conference has so far been eventful for both of us. We've enjoyed presentations by a number of development specialists including Shanta Devajaran, Chief Africa Economist for the World Bank and Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator, both of whom we later interviewed. We heard some very interesting presentations about how to best address the challenges… Continue
