"I can't believe sales have increased that much. Amazing. If consumer respect for these products increases the pressure is really put on all companies to think harder about CSR"

Fairwear 2010

This week I attended Bristol’s Fairwear fashion show, featuring People Trees’s new collection by Emma Watson. The fashion show is the biggest fair-trade fashion show in the UK, sponsored by Co-op and FiveG. Its aims to convey fair-trade fashion in an affordable and fun way as well as exploiting the hidden cost of cheap disposable garments that dominate our high streets. The show had many alternate fair-trade brands for everyone, from aprons and day wear right down to underwear! On the cat walk…See More

Help Fairtrade, help fair living

Hello guys,As a part of Fairtrade fortnight 2010 I am going to look into fair-trade for students, looking into how accessible it is, how much more expensive it is and the difference in taste, if any?The idea of Fairtrade is so simple and yet so rewarding, not only does it give workers a fair pay but also a chance at education, empowerment and a chance to improve their community. For example the journey of ‘The fruits of Fairtrade’ in South Africa, the government introduced a policy know as…See More

FIFA World Cup 2010 bring significant moment for South Africa

Nearly a billion eyes will be fixed on South Africa this summer for all the right reasons not due to race, crime or AIDS but for being the proud host of the 19th FIFA World Cup. In staging the World Cup finals they are taking on the biggest show piece sporting event in the world. South Africa won’t have had such a moment in the limelight since the transition from apartheid to multiracial democracy in 1994.This…See More

Young Brits paint a world without prejudice

Last night, I attended the ‘Young Brits at Art’ exhibition at The Tate in Liverpool. The Equality of Human Rights Commissions is asking young Brits to visualise a world free from prejudice, and launched ‘Young Brits at Art’ this week. The national awards are aimed at 11-19 year olds and encourage them to depict their beliefs, opinions and judgements by asking, ‘What would the world look like if we lived without prejudice?’We entered the exhibition room to look at last year’s winners and get to…See More
