Conservative policy deconstruction.

In lieu of the impending election, I've decided to deconstruct the policies of the conservative party, given that I disagree with them the most out of the big three parties, sorry any supporters :P

1) “Abolishing tax on new jobs created by new businesses within the first two years of a Conservative government.” This is yet another attempt by the conservative party to appeal to the
British public by promising tax cuts without fully explaining the
implications of said cuts. In case the Rt. Hon. Ken Clarke, Shadow
Secretary of State for Business hadn’t noticed, the national finances
aren’t particularly in order at the minute. We have a disturbingly high
deficit that the government will have to reduce come hell or high water
if we are to maintain credibility on the global stage. The cunning plan
proposed by the Tories is to reduce the government’s revenue, and it
therefore follows that there will be a reduction in the governments’
ability to reduce the deficit. David Cameron promised to “Cut the
deficit, not the NHS” well, with this proposal, how’s he going to do
that?

2)“Reducing the burden of regulation with a ‘one-in, one-out’ rule for new regulations, introducing regulatory budgets and sunset clauses to give businesses more freedom and greater
flexibility.” Yes, this is what we need in the wake of the most
crippling economic collapse since the 1930’s, a freer market. By
reducing the red tape, the conservative party will be allowing business
to take more risks, and will give them more control over the way our
economy works. This isn’t particularly helpful. The last thing
capitalism needs is more freedom. We need a stronger state role in the
system to ensure that free enterprise doesn’t rum amok and undermine
their own workers or country, it’s frankly absurd to call this a good
idea.

I admit that the current system needs changing, the regulation needs to be made more streamlined and efficient at actually regulating our economy, it is also important to increase the state’s role in the area
so that there are fewer messes like the one we’re trying to get out of
today.

3)”Making Britain one of the easiest places in the world to start a business. We will reduce the number of forms needed to register a new business – moving towards a ‘one-click’ registration
model – with the aim of making Britain the fastest place in the world to
start a business. We will also end restrictions on people starting a
business in social housing to enable social tenants to become
entrepreneurs.” This is frankly the most disturbing policy element of
the Tory business line. The great problem with making business creation
easier is that more ridiculous businesses will be created. There will be
fewer checks and balances to ensure that the proposed company will be
viable in the completely ridiculous and predatory economic system we
find ourselves in. Not only do we have to work within it, but we’re also
making it easier for mistakes to be made. More businesses will implode,
reducing Britain’s already tarnished standing in the world economic
system.

Social Housing shouldn’t in any way be related to business and profit, it should quite simply be housing that is more cheaply available so that people can afford it more easily, it should be council owned,
not corporately owned, and any move to take it out of state/municipal
jurisdiction is a betrayal of the tenants.

4)“Cutting the main rate of Corporation Tax and cutting the Small Companies’ Corporation Tax rate.” Again with the tax breaks! the last people who need tax breaks are those in the business
community! This is particularly true when the state needs all the tax
available to finance it’s horrific bail outs of the banks, the increased
welfare bill and the need to finance what is beginning to look like an
endless war. The last thing we need is more bleeding tax breaks,
particularly for the wealthy!

5)”Making Britain Europe’s leading hi-tech exporter, with the help of Sir James Dyson’s taskforce.” We don’t have any particular complaint with this, Britain has a strong Hi-Tech economy,
and given Mrs Thatcher’s dismantling of everything else, we need a new
export.

6)”Simplifying employment law to make it easier to hire people.” This, in classic Tory style, is a simple way to undermine the Trade Unions and the workers, by making it easier to employ someone, you’re
making it easier to break strike actions and undermine legitimate
industrial struggle, can’t say that we’re surprised by this piece of
policy.

7)”Improving skills training and apprenticeships.” Again, no real objection to this, youth unemployment needs to be curbed, though we suspect that this is
merely an attempt to hijack an old Labour “New Deal” arrangement.

8) “Reforming the Regional Development Agencies to create a vibrant, business-focused force that is more responsive to local needs.” If anything, the opposite needs to be
done, there needs to be a more effective council based state or
Charitable Trust sponsored agency. The idea that business should be
taking a larger part in the community is as ridiculous as the notion
that schools should be members of the Chambers of Commerce in their
local areas. Another Thatcherite legacy of indoctrinating the children
with the capitalist idea.

9)”Strengthening UK Trade and Investment to give British business a powerful voice abroad.” Misgivings more than objections on this one, we’re not particularly
massive fans of globalisation, and we’d prefer Britain to stay out of
it, however, now that it’s happening, Britain having a good standing
wouldn’t be a problem.

10)”Making small business rate relief automatic.” This is another expenditure that any post May 6 government can ill-afford, as stated before, there is a bloated defense budget, a massive financial Bail Out
to fund, and a horrifying deficit, if we’ve got to spend money, we
should spend it on say… the NHS, or social welfare.

11)”Increasing government procurement from small firms and improving prompt payment.” Great idea, let’s undercut the public sector by introducing more private involvement! hate to say this again
but THATCHER?!?! we’ve seen that public tenders don’t work!! why do the
Conservatives insist on destroying our public institutions. The tenders
aren’t guarantors of better quality, but of low prices, undermining the
the service provided, and in the case of the NHS, it risks people’s
life.
