When sport brings people together - for good, for better.

We are inspired by the story told in the new film Invictus, of how a nation divided by apartheid for decades came together to support their national rugby team, the South African Springboks, as they were led to victory in the 1995 rugby World Cup.

Imprisoned for 27 years, Nelson Mandela was released from prison in early 1990. In 1994 he become South Africa's first black President but inherited a nation still suffering from deep divides and on the verge of civil war. Mandela recognised that something else, something bigger, was needed to help begin the process of relieving the wounds inflicted by decades of segregation, and in 1994 called Francois Pienaar - then captain of South Africa's national rugby team - to see him. The trailer below captures the moment Pienaar realised that Nelson Mandela was asking him to help bring the South African rugby team to victory in 1995, because he recognised that winning this sporting event could help bring South Africa together in a way that nobody could have anticipated.

We are inspired by this for so many reasons, not least because it tells the story of a man was not silenced after years of imprisonment, but actually strengthened in his resolve to fight prejudice and encourage tolerance.
